A Comparison Of Invisalign vs Braces: Cost, Results & Treatment Time

If you’re interested in orthodontics in Williamsburg and you’re trying to decide between Invisalign and traditional metal braces, you may be wondering which option is a better choice. Does Invisalign cost more than braces? Do both treatments offer similar results? Which option offers a faster treatment time?

The team at James A. Burden, DDS and Associates wants all of our patients to be informed about their orthodontic options. Here are some things to keep in mind if you’re looking into straightening your smile:

Which Costs Less, Braces Or Invisalign?

Typically, Invisalign will be a bit more expensive for most patients, but the difference is usually relatively marginal if you’re a good candidate for both treatments.

However, it isn’t possible to give you an accurate cost estimate for your treatment until you visit us for an appointment. The cost of both Invisalign and braces can vary quite a bit based on your oral health, the extent of your orthodontic issues, and a number of other factors. If you’d like to get an accurate quote for your treatment, come into our office and see Dr. Burden right away.

What Offers Better Results, Braces Or Invisalign?

If you qualify for treatment with either braces or Invisalign, your treatment results will be identical. Both methods are great for straightening crooked teeth, minimizing gaps in your smile, and correcting minor bite issues.

However, if you have more severe orthodontic issues, braces may be a better choice for you. Traditional metal braces are more effective at closing large tooth gaps, adjusting your jaw and bite, and resolving other large orthodontic problems.

Which is Faster, Braces Or Invisalign?

When it comes to treatment time, Invisalign has an edge over traditional braces. If you’re a good candidate for both treatments, you’ll typically get faster results with Invisalign. The average Invisalign patient will wear 20-24 aligners for about 2 weeks each, so the typical treatment time is about a year.

In contrast, braces usually require at least 12-18 months to correct the position of your teeth. If you have more serious orthodontic issues and are not a candidate for Invisalign, you may need to have braces for 2-3 years.

For this reason, Invisalign is a better choice for patients who have minor-to-moderate orthodontic issues and would like fast results. You can straighten your teeth in less than a year and enjoy a more comfortable, convenient orthodontic treatment.
