Conscious Sedation

Conscious sedation is a minimally depressed level of consciousness where the patient maintains control of their airway and reflexes and can respond to physical and verbal stimuli.  Some people refer to this experience as “sleep dentistry”.  However, no I.V. is required.  Sedation in dentistry is achieved by simply taking a pill at the beginning of the appointment.  The dentist is able to create a relaxed, comfortable environment where the patient will experience little or no anxiety.  When the appointment is over, many patients feel as if they have slept through the entire appointment.  They often have little or no memory of what happened.

Sedation dentistry can be used for practically any dental procedure, from cleanings to crowns, from simple fillings to root canals.
